Two amendments were made to Channahon’s cannabis regulations at Monday’s village board meeting. The changes were unanimously approved by the trustees. One amendment was to specifically bar cannabis establishments, such as cannabis cafes, inside homes.
Cannabis cafes are prohibited in all zoning districts in the village. The other change was an increase in distance separating cannabis dispensaries from homes, schools, churches, parks and daycare facilities from 250-feet to 500-feet.
The distance is measured from the lot line of the buildings to the wall of the dispensary. The subject of the Corona virus was also discussed at the meeting, with Village President Missey Moorman Schumacher and Village Administrator Thomas Durkin announcing such changes at the village hall as limiting visits to the building to better protect staff and the public.
Due dates for Channahon utility payments have been extended to April 20, and the Channahon Park District has closed its facilities until further notice. Channahon’s State of the Village address scheduled for April 15 has also been cancelled.
Also at the meeting, Channahon Village Administrator Thomas Durkin announced that the village’s Public Works Department received a commendation from the Illinois Department of Public Health for maintaining perfect water system compliance for 12 consecutive months in 2019.
