The Channahon Village Board this week approved a BYOB ordinance that allows people attending certain businesses in Channahon to bring in their own wine or beer.

Each business who wants the Class M license must apply for it and pay an annual fee. The ordinance would allow each business to let their customers bring in one 750-milliliter bottle of wine per person or 36 ounces of beer per person.

The village has been receiving requests for businesses to offer the BYOB option, which could be used for parties, events or other uses at businesses that do not already have a liquor license. The ordinance also includes information on how the businesses must seal open wine bottles if customers want to take them home.
