A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Morris Butterfly Garden at Canal Port Park was held on Wednesday.

Last month the garden was replanted and renovated through sponsorships and volunteers from the Three Rivers Association of Realtors, the Community Foundation of Grundy County and The Conservation Foundation.

The original garden at Canal Port Park was constructed by Morris resident and retired City Engineer Warren Olson who created the garden in memory of his late wife Karen Olson. Over the years the garden fell into disrepair and in 2019 the Conservation Foundation was contacted by Morris resident Lindy Kowski who wanted to organize a community group to make improvements to the garden.The Conservation Foundation put Kowski in contact with Gideon Bluestein of the Three Rivers Association of Realtors, who also had an interest in improving the park.
