The Pontiac Correctional Center has seen an uptick of Covid-19 cases in the past week. The Illinois Department of Corrections and Livingston County Health Department said a male in his 50’s at the facility, who was asymptomatic at the time of testing, is currently recovering in isolation.
It was announced on Thursday that a male in his 70’s who had been hospitalized passed away from Covid-19. Local officials did not release if the person was a staff member or inmate at the prison. In addition, another person at the prison tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. That individual included a male in his 20's who was asymptomatic at the time of testing and is currently recovering in isolation.
Due to the increased COVID-19 activity at PCC, additional protective measures are being implemented in order to identify new cases and ensure the health and safety of staff and inmates. As of May 22, 2020, the LCHD has received 756 COVID-19 test results.
Of that, 31 COVID-19 tests have been confirmed positive and 725 tests confirmed negative. Twenty-five of the previously reported confirmed cases have been removed from isolation, four cases remain active and two people have died from Covid-19.
