A Naval Academy Midshipman from Sugar Grove will be attending President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday in Washington D.C.
Congressman Randy Hultgren announced on Monday morning that Midshipman Alex Vandenberg, who is studying at the U.S. Naval Academy, will be Hultgren's guest at the address.
Congressman Hultgren says in a release that he nominated Vandenberg to the Naval Academy in 2015 where he has, "simultaneously earned all three Orders of Merit (Academic, Military, Overall) and ascended to the top of his United States Naval Academy class the first semester of his first year."
Hultgren adds that Vandenberg, "has overcome great challenges to excel in his studies and in sports, playing on the varsity hockey team.
He says, "I look forward to hosting him as my guest at the State of the Union address and honoring an American devoted to serving his country.”
Vandenberg graduated from Marmion Academy in Aurora in 2015, where he was Battalion Commander for the junior reserve officer training corps.
